Katie Melua 凱蒂瑪露19歲，生于前蘇聯的喬治亞共和國，成長于莫斯科、黑海、北愛爾蘭及倫敦。小時夢想可以從政或成為史學家的她，就讀英國表演藝術學校時被名<音樂紙作人Mike Batt慧眼發覺，簽入獨立廠牌DRAMATICO旗下。2003年底，首支單曲“The Closest Thing To Crazy”發行便強登英國金榜Top 10。不久，廣獲好評的首張專輯一舉擠下英倫人氣天后Dido/蒂朵、擊退Norah Jones，榮獲6周英國金榜后座，成為英國2004開春迄今最專輯。聲線兼備藍調、民謠、爵士味道的Katie Melua，常被樂評拿來與Norah Jones(諾拉．瓊絲)相提并論。但她那相較甜美清澈的年輕嗓音，讓人遙想起已逝的跨界流行爵士美聲EvaCassidy。而在被Mike Batt發掘的那天，Katie所演唱的正好就是受Eva啟發而學下的創作曲“Faraway Voice”。此外，她也自承在音樂方面受到Queen、JoniMitchell、Bob Dylan和印度音樂及愛爾蘭民謠等多類樂風的影響。
